“Hangeng, Hyung, that’s what his name is.” Siwon repeated for the fourth time in less then five minutes as Heechul continued complaining about ‘that uncivilized Chinaman’, who had, unfortunately for him, happened to park his car where Heechul always parked his car, a fact that everyone was aware of. How come he didn’t know? Answer that for Heechul and he won’t say ‘another word’. But it was completely illogical and disrespectful of him. And Heechul had every right to show his annoyance at that, despite the fact that very same Chinaman had very politely apologized for his mistake and parked his car elsewhere.
“Well Hankyung,” reported Heechul, getting his name wrong, as if on purpose, “is an asshole.” He finished in a satisfied tone.
A second later he shut up though. His dad had just gotten up to meet the chief guest. Heechul’s heart sank as he took in the face. It was Han-fuckin’-kyung.
Siwon caught on fast, in a minute he knew what was going on. Intending to mess with Heechul a little he cleared his throat and in just the perfect tone, asked, “What were you saying, hyung?”
Heechul, sensing what Siwon was up to, turned to face him.
“I said, Hankyung is an asshole.” He said before storming out of the hall.
“Hankyung is a-” trailed off Heechul as he took another swing of his strawberry margarita.
Hangeng had just answered someone’s probing question very lightly.
Was he interested in any of the men that were present at the table?
“No, I don’t like men like that” he had answered, gesturing with hands to show what he meant by ‘that’.
Of course Heechul was the one who had started it first by stating very solemnly that just because he had feminine features did not mean he was gay. In fact, it added to his ‘masculine charm’, made him all the more desired by women. Kyuhyun had snickered and Heechul had already been enraged by that.
And just because he had said it did not mean Hankyung could say it too. Not that he was bothered by it or anything. It was just that the guy was clearly lying. Just the other day Heechul could have sworn the guy was hitting on him. The way he bent down, towering over him, trying to act all tough as he offered him a drink. Heechul being Heechul had taken the drink offered to him, turned a deaf ear to the question asked of him, and had walked off, leaving the guy behind.
And now he had the nerve to claim he ‘didn’t like men like that’? How dare he?!
So Heechul had done what he loved to do most. He had gotten up without an explanation, and walked out of the party, dragging Siwon behind him, constantly reminding himself that the nagging feeling in his heart wasn’t disappointment at not being named as the person the Chinaman was interested in. Of course he was just annoyed because he had been lied to.
Half guiding, half dragging a very confused Siwon into a club, he had gotten on a high bar stool and ordered drinks, Red wine for Siwon and a strawberry margarita for him as he started complaining.
“Man! Hankyung is a freakin’ asshole!” he said, as if coming to a conclusion after thinking about something long and hard. Siwon just looked at him with a resigned look on his face. He knew weather he commented or not wouldn’t matter anyway. So he stayed quiet and let Heechul do the talking.
Outside the rain still hadn’t stopped. It had been raining all day. And it was making Heechul restless. He sighed as he tossed and turned under the heavy blankets, the mattress shifting under his weight. He pulled a pillow over his head, tying to cut off the constant pitter patter of the rain.
It didn’t help.
The other day, at the party, he had been affected by Hankyung’s words more then anyone could ever imagine. More then he himself could have ever imagined.
He hadn’t been able to get that freaking asshole of a Chinaman out of his head ever since. Heechul knew he was just being pathetic. What did it matter to him anyway? What did some random stranger’s sexual preferences have to do with him?
But he had to admit to himself Hankyung wasn’t just a random stranger any more. The thing was, Heechul had gotten used to him being around so often. Always trying to piss him off, always trying to mess with him, the random stranger had turned into someone so important in such a short span of time, Heechul was surprised even he hadn’t noticed how attached he had gotten.
With a sigh Heechul climbed off his bed, quickly slipping into his clothes, and without a second thought, slipped out of his room. He grabbed his car keys on his way out of the house.
When Hankyung opened the door, took in the sight of Heechul soaked in rainwater standing at his porch, he understood. He knew Heechul had come to his senses at last.
Heechul stood at the door, soaked wet in the rainwater. Rain drenched his clothes and water dripped off the bridge of his nose.
As Hankyung opened the door, Heechul saw the look of understanding in his eyes. He saw that he understood. He knew what was coming next.
But again, unlike what he had feared, the door wasn’t slammed shut in his face. And again, unlike what he had expected, his back wasn’t slammed into the closest wall. There was no crashing of lips. No dancing of tongues. There was no breath mingling, no tearing away clothes.
Instead there was a soft touch as Hankyung took hold of his wrist, pulling him into the house. He led him into a bedroom, took a towel and wrapped it around his head to dry his hair as hot water filled the tub in the washroom behind him.
It was later, in the kitchen, when Heechul, dressed in Hankyung’s clothes, took a sip of the hot coffee and burned his tongue. It was then that Hankyung did it. He placed a chaste kiss on Heechul’s lips, tasting the sweetness of his mouth, cupping his cheek in one hand lightly, as if afraid that any more force would break him.
“Hankyung is one freakin’ romantic asshole!” Heechul told Siwon the next day when he got him dragged out of a meeting just because he could. Having your father as the owner of the company does have its advantages.Siwon remained silent. What other option did he have?
